Bonnie Jean (Austin) Coleman 1926 – 2017.Bonnie Jean (Austin) Coleman joined her husband John H. Coleman in eternal life on August 11, 2017. Born on December 30, to George B. and Julia (Shoemaker) Austin. Bonnie grew up in Oklahoma City and early on, music became part of her life. While still in high school she played piano with the Oklahoma City Symphony. After graduating from Classen High School in 1944, She spent one year at Phillips University in Enid. In 1945 she transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she joined the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority in March of 1946. In spring of 1948, after earning a B.A. in fashion Art, She married John H. Coleman on June 27, 1948. In the mid ‘50s the couple moved to Tulsa where Bonnie and John became members of East Side Christian Church. Bonnie was very active in her church. She was president of Nursery Mothers and Christian Women’s Fellowship, sang with the chancel choir and accompanied the children’s choir and served on the church board in several capacities. In 1997 the church presented her with the Outstanding Service Award. Bonnie served as Den Mother to her son John Jr.’s Cub Scout pack and assistant leader with her daughters’ Girl Scout troops. Bonnie taught piano to her 3 children as well as several neighborhood children. Besides her love of music, designing and sewing clothes for herself and her children, gardening and camping. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, George B. and Julia (Shoemaker) Austin and husband of 55 years, John H. Coleman. She is survived by 3 children; John H. Coleman Jr. and wife Deborah Coleman of Broken Arrow, Christina J. Coleman of Tulsa, and Susi Coleman Slape of Tulsa. 3 grandchildren; Gale Coleman and wife Lisa, Samantha Seaborn and husband Dustin, and Sarah Moody and life partner Shea Drum. 3 great grandchildren Clayton, Renae Coleman and Jaxon Moody.
