Boyce Garland Sloan's Obituary
Sloan- Boyce Garland, 77 went to Heaven peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2004, with his loving wife of 57 years Hazel Crow Sloan at his side.He was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on March 6, 1926. He attended Eugene Field Elementary, Clinton Junior High, and Webster High School, class of 1945. He wrestled and was an original member of the Westside YMCA in West Tulsa. As a young man he caddied at Southern Hills Country Club. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was stationed in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Zeilin. He learned the painting business from his Uncle George and was a painting contractor and master paperhanger. He was a Master Mason of the Red Fork Masonic Lodge in 1966. He retired in 1988 at the age of 62 and enjoyed playing golf, watching golf matches on TV, and woodworking.Garland had a host of friends and was very well liked by everyone he met. A celebration of his life will be at Floral Haven Chapel on Wednesday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family would like contributions to be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 51 Locust Ave., Ste. 201, New Canaan, Ct. 06840Survived By: his loving wife of 57 years: Hazel Crow Sloan; children: Nancy Inglett and husband James,Jimmy Sloan and wife Eve, Claudia Miller and husband Jim; 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Jessie (Benge) Sloan, and Eva Benge his grandmother who raised him.
