About 4 years ago Amy and I were visiting Carl and we started talking about Jerry Bernos. He pulled out a folder that had Carl's hand written letter to GPA requesting a Citation for Service award be given to his close friend and colleague Jerry, who at the time had recently passed away. What was really special was that he had kept this letter for nearly 20 years and knew exactly where it was. At that moment I really knew he was a special friend to Jerry and our family. We're not often lucky enough to have friends like that and I cherish having the opportunity to call Carl a dear friend. He may be gone but there will always be a special place in my heart reserved for my good friend.
Over 40 years ago, when I got into the industry, I called GPA and spoke to Carl Sutton. He told me that he couldn't really help me, but gave me Carl Hefley's phone number. I reached out to Carl and he was very helpful. A couple of years later i attended the GPA School of Gas Chromatography and he asked me if I would be interested in working at the school as an instructor. Carl and Jerry Bernos mentored me and I was honored to be able to call both of them friends. Carl was always helping and teaching, and we feel loss, but heaven is rejoicing because he is there with Judy and Jesus.
Carl was one of the kindest and compassionate gentleman we knew. He always listened and if asked, gave a considered opinion on a religious or personal question. He will be greatly missed, although he will be with Judy and his Lord. Robert and Judith Wessels
Carl was without a doubt the kindest and most considerate gentleman. He would listen quietly and if asked give a considered opinion, be it a religous question or a personal matter. He will be qreatly missed, but we know he will be happy to be with Judy again and with his Lord.
