Holmes, Mary Carlynne Lea
June 2, 1932 – September 4, 2024
Carlynne Holmes peacefully passed away in her home at Montereau on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. She was born in Tulsa to Mary Ingerton Lea and Carl Lea, graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1950 and attended the University of Tulsa where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her younger brother, John Edward Lea, predeceased her in 1992.
She married Burt B. Holmes of Tulsa in 1952 and after having her first child, Jeff, decided to become a full-time mother. Her highest calling in life was as a mother to her five children, Jeff, Julia, Jennifer, Janice and Joan as she devoted herself to supporting each child’s interests in school, sports, arts, camps and travels. Their household was typically a beehive of activity generally including many childhood friends throughout the years. Carlynne was active was a sustaining member of Junior League of Tulsa, a volunteer at Laureate for many years, and a member of the choir at Asbury Methodist Church. Carlynne took comfort and found peace in her faith throughout her life.
Carlynne was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ingerton Lea, her father, Carl Lea, and daughter, Jennifer Lea Holmes. She is survived by her son, Jeff and Lori Holmes, and daughters Julia Holmes Ange of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Janice and Bill Chevaillier of Tulsa, and Joan and Culver Stedman of Houston. Grandchildren include Heather and Josh Gower, Betsy and Brad Brown, Leslie Farmer, Alexandre and Lindsay Ange, Conner Chevaillier, Matilda Chevaillier, Leigh Chevaillier, Culver Stedman II, and Andrew Stedman, and Great Grandchildren Caroline Gower, Warren Brown, Dean Brown, Elle Brown, and Cora Ange.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Montereau and especially to her caregiver of the last few years, Analiza.
Private Family service will take place at Floral Haven Cemetery on September 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
