Carol Sue Cook's Obituary
Carol Sue Brannon Cook was born March 14, 1939, in Pampa, Texas, but became a proud Okie, spending her formative years in Edmond, before moving to Okmulgee, where she graduated.
Her passion for learning led her to Central State College, where she laid the foundation for a lifelong career in education. Her guiding hand and faith in the power of knowledge left a lasting impression on countless students in towns across her state.
Carol was known for her warmth and strength. A loving wife to late husband Chelsea Cook, she built a home filled with care and compassion. As a devoted mother, she raised three children—Christopher Cook, Cari Smith, and Jeremy Cook—instilling in them the values of perseverance and kindness. She loved her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with all her heart.
Carol’s resilience was evident throughout her life. After nearly dying as an infant, at the age of six, she survived severe burns from a gas stove explosion. Cancer tried to get her twice, but each time she faced down the disease with quiet determination and grace. Carol’s strength inspired her friends and family, as well as other patients at the cancer center where she later volunteered.
Carol loved traveling, but also found joy in simple pleasures like reading and knitting, which allowed her to express her creativity and turn her love into something warm and comforting.
A devoted Methodist and frequent volunteer, Carol was involved in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, The Wewoka Garden Club, OEA-NEA, Sigma Kappa Sorority, and the UCO Alumni Association. She was a lifelong Methodist, who stayed true to her faith to the end. (Fin & Feather?)
She is remembered dearly by her brother Dale Brannon, who shared in the memories of their early years and remained an important part of her life, as well as a host of cousins and life-long friends around the world.
Carol Cook will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, great friend, passionate educator and volunteer, as well as a person of Faith. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
