Carol Anne Devlin's Obituary
Carol Anne Rieder Devlin was born January 6, 1938 in The Bronx, New York, to James Edward and Frances Anne Rieder. She died on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at her home in Bixby, Oklahoma. Carol was the sister of James and Thomas Rieder; wife of Thomas F Devlin Jr.; mother to Thomas III, Christine, Patrick, and Terry; Grammy to Dustin, Thomas IV, Jon, Daniel, AJ, Samantha, Eric, and Nick, and Great Grandma to Ryleigh, Drake, and Morgan. She graduated from William Howard Taft High School in The Bronx, where she met her future husband. She and Tom were married on June 27, 1958. While her childhood was spent in The Bronx, she and Tom lived in Rome, NY and Binghamton, NY early in their marriage, and moved to Broken Arrow, OK in 1974. She lived in Broken Arrow until 2013, and moved to Bixby, OK for the last years of her life. Carol was a people person. She was at her best when she was the centre of attention, and had a knack of making sure she WAS the center of attention. She had a short career as a “lunch lady” at Broken Arrow Schools, where she hooked Terry up with no-bake cookies (wrapped in a napkin, of course). She also worked for a short time as an office assistant for Domestic Violence Intervention Services. Chris remembers visiting her there, being impressed that there was a computer monitor on her mother’s desk (and thinking that she was using it..) When she walked behind the desk, though, she saw that her mom was using the monitor as a frame for her grandkids’ pictures. Her last job outside the home was working Concession at the Tulsa Fairgrounds, where she hooked unknown numbers of people up with who knows what. Her longest profession, though, was being a homemaker. Mother always had dad’s breakfast ready before he went to work, and had dinner on the table at 5:30, come hell or high water. Her kids mother sitting at the kitchen table early every morning, shuffling her cards to play endless games of Solitaire. The family sends a special Thank You and much love to the staff of Sand Plum Retirement Center and Carter Healthcare, who loved our mother and treated her like family for the last years of her life. They also have a special place in their hearts for the physicians and staff at Tulsa Cancer Center and Research Hospital and the staff at Grace Hospice for helping us deal with her last months. To the many other physicians and caretakers who cared for mom, thank you. And finally, a thank you (and a big hug) to the many friends who have offered condolences and shared their love of our mother. There will be a visitation Friday, December 9, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel
