Carol Ann Martin's Obituary
Carol Ann (Johnson) Martin was born May 21, 1944 in Independence, MO to Glen Moroni Johnson and Letha Marie (Mattes) Johnson.
Carol grew up in Coffeyville, KS and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in May 1962. She attended secretary classes at Coffeyville Community College after graduation. She married Stephen Earl Heilman in November 1963 and they eventually moved to Bartlesville, OK. She then began her career at Phillips Petroleum Company as a secretary. When Carol and Steve started their family, she stayed home for several years to care for their four daughters. During that time, she was an active member and leader of La Leche League. Carol’s parents lived right down the street and were a treasured part of daily life. There were many meals together, celebrations, vacations and family reunions. When the girls got older, she went back to work at Phillips where she eventually worked as the Executive Assistant to the President of the Phillips Pipeline.
Carol married Esta Muriel Martin in April 1997 and moved to Broken Arrow, OK. There she worked at Commercial Financial Services as the Executive Assistant to the President. In 1999 she started working as the Executive Assistant to the President of Citgo Petroleum Company. During her years at Citgo, they lived in Houston for a while and she even traveled to Venezuela with the company. Carol and Esta loved to travel and they visited places like Las Vegas, Memphis, Washington D.C., Indianapolis and Chicago. Her favorite place was their lakehouse at Beaver Lake in Arkansas where everyone could meet for fun on the weekends. Carol retired from Citgo in 2009 and they lived in Broken Arrow for the rest of her years.
Carol’s true passion was loving and caring for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. She would always do anything for her family. Carol loved spending time together and going places like to the zoo, museums, movies, amusement parks and other places for fun. She was a wonderful cook and always made plenty of everyone’s favorite foods for family get-togethers. Besides cooking, some of her favorite things to do were cross stitch, playing games, working puzzles and watching Hallmark movies. Carol brought her camera everywhere and took countless photos to capture family memories. She loved having her family around her and hearing about their interests. She made many special and unforgettable memories with her loved ones.
Carol is survived by her husband, Esta Martin (Broken Arrow); her daughter, Angela Patterson (Tulsa); granddaughter, Meagan Patterson and great-granddaughter, Addilyn Patterson; granddaughter, Britney Skye Patterson and great-granddaughter, Tula Patterson Crouch; grandsons, Cannon Patterson and Gabriel Heilman; daughter, Melissa Yardley and husband Mark Yardley (Bartlesville); grandsons, Logan and Tanner Yardley; granddaughter, Scarlett Heilman; daughter, Stephanie Heilman (Broken Arrow); and grandsons, Kylan and Tyson Heilman. She is also survived by her niece, Amy (Gerdes) Iori and husband Jim Iori (Pittsburg, KS); along with numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by parents, Glen and Letha Johnson; first husband, Steve Heilman; daughter, Lisa Heilman; in-laws, Earl and Hazel Heilman; sister-in-law, Julie (Heilman) Gerdes and brother-in-law, Joe Gerdes.
