Carol Powell's Obituary
Carol Powell was a beloved wife, mom, Meme, sister, and friend to many. Carol was born and raised in Crane, Texas, a small oil field town in west Texas. She went to Crane Highschool where she graduated with honors. She was active in student council, a cheerleader, and other activities. She then went to Texas Tech University. She earned a Business Education Degree. While cutting in line to enroll in classes at Texas Tech University, she met the love of her life, Ron Powell. They ended up in a business class together. Their courtship started as study dates. Ron claims his GPA skyrocketed after meeting Carol. They fell madly in love and were married May 28, 1966. They finished their senior year at Tech living in married housing. Upon graduation, Ron and Carol moved to Tulsa, OK. They have lived there ever since (minus a year). Carol always said “the most perfect place to live would be a “Tulsa, Texas”. Ron and Carol just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Carol was a treasured mom to Jennette Powell Shuler and Larry Powell. Mother-in law to Greg Shuler and Bridget Powell. Carol was the best and very loved “Meme” to six grandchildren. Kailey Shuler Haley, Abby Shuler, Emily Shuler, Holly Shuler, Rhett Powell, and Wyatt Powell. She also recently became a great grandmother in the past two years. She has two great grandsons, Michael and Isaac Haley. Carol did her best to be a part of children and grandchildren’s lives and activities. She was always an encourager and “cheerleader” for them. She made every holiday and event special. Carol is also survived by her little sister, Hallie Weiser.
Carol was an active member at Highland Park Christian Church for 53 years. She has many treasured friendships from this church. Her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was first and foremost in her life and evident in the way she served others.
Carol was well known for her career she had with Creative Memories. She used her business education degree, teaching experience, love for preserving memories, and desire to help others to build a very successful and profitable business that lasted 21 years. Carol traveled all over the country and developed many deep friendships with this career.
Carol suffered from a stroke in 2012. She recovered fairly well and had several healthy years to follow. However, side effects from the stroke eventually developed into Alzheimer's. Ron has been the most devoted husband and caretaker to Carol through this.
We grieve because she was such a pillar of encouragement and integrity to so many. We grieve because she loved us with all of her heart. However, we grieve with the hope of God, knowing that she is now healed and made perfect celebrating in Heaven. Carol would not want us to be sad, but to rejoice in the fact that those of us who have given our lives to Christ will one day join her in Heaven for eternity. “Jesus said I am the resurrection and life, The one who believes in me will live, even though they die, and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. “ John 11: 25-26
