Carolyn June Jones' Obituary
Long time Broken Arrow resident, Carolyn June Jones, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2024. Carolyn was born to Willie C Dunn and wife, Helen, on September 24, 1942, in Durant, Oklahoma and was the middle child of three sisters. She was raised on the family peanut and cotton farm at Old Allison in Southern Oklahoma. Her family then moved to Durant, Oklahoma and she attended school in Achille and graduated high school in 1960.
Following high school graduation, Carolyn attended Southeastern State University in Durant. She pledged Delta Zeta which was an integral part of her college life. Carolyn paid her way through college working in the campus bookstore, and earned a Bachelors Degree in teaching in 1964. Her first year of teaching was in Vinita, Oklahoma and it was during that time that she met Park. Carolyn met Park through her roommate who was dating Park’s cousin at the time. Over the next few years, Park courted Carolyn and they married on August 12, 1967. Park was the love of her life, and they were married for 56 very devoted years. In 1971, they had a daughter, Kimberly Dawn. They spent her childhood completely devoted to her, running her to soccer practices, dance, Tai Kwan Do, and cheerleading. When Kim got married, she welcomed her son-in-law, Rick, who she would say herself, “hung the moon”.
Carolyn worked as a teacher for 33 years. Most of that time was working for the Broken Arrow School System as a business teacher at the high school. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Teachers Association. She truly loved teaching and loved her high school students. She has kept in touch with many of them throughout the years. It was rare that the family went anywhere without running into one of her former students. Carolyn was very independent and hard worker and wanted to provide for the family, so she took on a second career as a realtor, working for Ralph Sanders and was the top Sales Associate year after year.
The family and extended family’s most cherished memories were from Carolyn hosting holidays at her home. She was an amazing cook and always had enough food for an army! She cooked for Easters and hosted big Easter egg hunts for all the cousins growing up. She also hosted large Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners and her homemade dressing and deviled eggs were famous! She taught Kim to cook and passed along her love for cooking and entertaining. Carolyn also enjoyed playing tennis and boating, two interests that she and Park enjoyed in their early years and passed along to their daughter. But nothing gave her more joy than her granddaughters, Lauren, and Anna. After retirement, she kept them both at home until they were ready for school. She enjoyed being able to spend time with them and allow Kim and Rick to work and build their careers. She loved to take them shopping when they were little, and they were always dressed the very best!
Carolyn was known as a woman of strong faith and instilled that in Kim growing up and then on to her granddaughters. She was in church every Wednesday and Sunday and it was her favorite place to be. She led a very Christ centered life and had a Faith that was unchallenged. She will forever be missed, but her family has peace knowing that she has been reunited with her husband.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Park Jones, Jr., parents Wille C and Helen (Chivers) Dunn, a sister, Anita Joy Key, and her son-in-law, Rick Hoffman. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Hoffman, her granddaughters, Lauren Hoffman and Anna Hoffman, her sister Willita Farmer (husband Don Farmer) of McKinney, Texas and many loving nieces and nephews.
