Carroll Orvis Werling's Obituary
Long time Tulsa resident, Carroll Orvis Werling, 88, passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Carroll was born February 16, 1937, in Ancon, Canal Zone, Republic of Panama to Mallie C. Adams and Martha Zell Mauldin Adams. Carroll grew up in the Canal Zone living on the US Army base while her father was in government service. She graduated from Balboa High School in the Canal Zone in 1955 and moved to Oklahoma to attend the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Carroll married Bruce E Orvis, of Tulsa and the Canal Zone, on August 19, 1956, in Florida, and they raised four daughters together divorcing in 1979.
Carroll began her professional office career in the 1960’s with Kerr-McGee in Oklahoma City. The bulk of her career was spent working as an office manager and executive assistant with several family-owned firms in Tulsa including Rich’s of Tulsa, Hammond Electric, Asbury Methodist Church, and Principal Financial.
Carroll’s joy in life was her four girls, and she was actively involved in all her children’s activities. During the 1970’s, she was a faithful athletic club supporter at Wright Junior High and later Nimitz Junior High sporting events as a cheerleading sponsor, pep club sponsor, chauffeur to athletes, and substitute mom to everyone. Throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, she could also be found Friday nights at every Mason High School and Memorial High School football game. Carroll spent countless hours driving her girls to softball practices and dance lessons. She also could be found sitting in blaring summer heat at softball tournaments, swim meets, and in non-air-conditioned auditoriums at continual dance recitals over the years. She was renowned for the cookies she provided at Wednesday night Bible Studies and for the gracious hospitality she provided in her home for any and every event.
In 1998, Carroll married Warren Werling of Tulsa. They were married for fifteen years until Warren’s death in 2013. They enjoyed spending time together with the Jaguar Club of Tulsa and the Shrine Kar Buffs, and spent their weekends traveling to classic car shows to enter Warren’s classic Jaguar cars. They also loved traveling to Akdar Shrine events as Warren was a Past Potentate and Past President of the Central States Shrine Association. Carroll attended Ascension Lutheran Church and was previously a member of Asbury Methodist Church.
Carroll was a long time, hard-core OU fan. She came to Norman in 1955, was present at Owen field in 1957 when Bud Wilkinson’s forty-seven game winning streak ended and was a season ticket holder for many years. She passed away one day before OU’s opening game of the 2025 season marking her 70th year of being an OU fan.
Carroll battled Parkinson’s beginning in 1999 and moved to Albuquerque in 2015 to be near her oldest daughter. She faced the Parkinson’s battle bravely and with boldness as she did everything in her life.
Carroll is survived by her daughters: Sandi Orvis Enterline and husband Bob, Terri Orvis, Jenni Orvis Roswurm and husband Scot, Kathi Orvis Caccamo and husband Dan, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
