Cathy Lou Knighton-Wilson's Obituary
Cathy Knighton Wilson, otherwise known as “YaYa”, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Cathy is survived by; her sweet husband of 45 years, Lonnie Wilson, her only son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kelly Wilson, and her two most cherished granddaughters, Micah and Lydia Wilson also of Tulsa, OK.Cathy leaves behind six precious brothers and sisters; Julia Denning of Wichita, KS, Wilbur and wife Peggy Knighton of Claremore, OK, Ralph and wife Kay Knighton of Oklahoma City, OK, Ruth and husband Jeff Anderson of Flagstaff, AZ, Lora Pelto of Austin TX and Jeff Knighton of Owasso, OK. Cathy considered Lonnie’s siblings her own and so, she also leaves behind several brothers and sisters by marriage including; Trish Wilson of Houston, TX, Dennis and wife Sharon Wilson of Tulsa, OK, Cathy and husband Kenneth Kinney of Sapulpa, OK, Debbie and husband Jim Russell of Tulsa, OK and Nancy and husband Robert Weibel of Tulsa, OK as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Dorothy Knighton of Claremore, OK, her mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Bill Wilson and her brother-in-law, David Wilson of Houston, TX.Cathy was born on November 11, 1951 in Tulsa, OK to Wilbur and Dorothy Knighton. Cathy graduated from McClain High School in 1970. She married her high school sweetheart, Lonnie a year later on August 7, 1971. Together they had one son, Eric, who was born in 1976. Cathy held several jobs and titles over her life time, including Underwriter for MetLife and USAA. However, the titles she loved most, were mom and Yaya.Some of her passions included hosting family meals in her home of 40 years, celebrating holidays with family, traveling and spending time with friends, as well as her monthly get together with the “McLadies”, gardening, shopping, playing with her granddaughters and of course, she especially enjoyed bossing Lonnie around for 45 years.Throughout life’s ups and downs, Cathy was abundantly blessed with loving support from her very large family and many friends over the years. Cathy will be remembered for her free spirit, eclectic tastes, her deep love of family and her special brand of sass.The family wishes to thank the Hilcrest Hospital ICU doctors and nurses who provided the highest level of care, respect and compassion in her final week.
