Charles Farney's Obituary
Charles Joseph Farney, Jr.Joe/Charlie was born on October 24, 1943 in Tulsa to Charles Joseph, Sr. and Dorthy Louise (Downing) Farney. He graduated from McClain High School in 1961 where he was a highly recruited football player and was named to the All-State team. He had scholarship offers from OU, OSU and TU. He chose Northeastern A&M at Miami, OK because of their excellent football program. He married his high school sweetheart Sandra Kay (Sandy) Stephens on November 9, 1962. Together they raised two sons, Joseph and Stephen. Joe worked for the City of Tulsa at the Water Department. When the family moved to Ardmore, Ok, he worked for the Neustadt Land Development Company as Building Manager. When they returned to Tulsa, he worked for the City of Tulsa at the Civic Center as Lead Stationary Engineer. He ended his career at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Campus, as Lead Operating Engineer retiring in 2015. They were members of Central Baptist Church, Owasso, Ok.For the span of fifty years, they have been strong advocates for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. In retirement, Joe and Sandy spent many happy hours driving back roads and researching family history. They especially enjoyed family reunions and visiting original homesites of their ancestors.They loved going to Branson where he always wore his vacation clothes of Hawaiian shirts and shorts.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathy King (Norman) and brothers-in-law Gene Steele and Harold Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandy; sons Joseph (Kathy) and Stephen; grandchildren Andrew (Isamar) and Danielle; great-grandchildren Allison, Aaron and Adrian.In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate to the Happy Hands Education Center at happyhands.org or 8801 S.
