Charles "Charlie" Lawson's Obituary
Charles (Charlie) Lawson, beloved father, brother and friend, passed away on October 21, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on November 20, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Gayle and Emilee Lawson. Charlie was a longtime resident of Verdigris and Claremore.
Growing up in Tulsa, Charlie attended Union High School, where he graduated in 1971. He further pursued his education at the University of Tulsa, where he earned a BA degree in accounting and graduated in 1977. Charlie retired from L3 Communications after working as an accountant for 34 years.
Charlie had a passion for the outdoors. Fishing and boating were some of Charlie's favorite pastimes, especially at Fort Gibson Lake with his brother Billy. Whether alone or with family and friends, he cherished the early morning peace spent by the water, creating memories that will be forever treasured. He loved visiting Spring Creek in the hot Oklahoma summers with his children, nieces and nephews for fishing, floating and cooling off.
He found joy in tinkering on cars, boats or anything with a motor, taking pleasure in the process of fixing and improving them. He was a handyman and had a natural talent for working with his hands. Charlie was always willing to assist others using his self-taught skills. He was who you would call if you needed help replacing a boat part, changing a flat tire, grading a gravel drive or painting a room. Having seemingly endless energy, he always stayed till the work got done.
An involved and supportive father, Charlie loved coaching his kids' basketball and soccer teams. Charlie was president of Verdigris soccer club for several years and brought about installation of lights for the fields. He was a devoted spectator as his daughters got older, attending nearly every one of their games. He found immense fulfillment in nurturing their talents and witnessing their growth both on and off the field.
He loved his large extended family dearly. Charlie greatly enjoyed sharing tales about growing up with seven siblings. Through his stories, he ensured that the legacy and history of his family would live on.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Kelly Hastings and husband Nicholas, daughter Caroline Clary and husband Drew, son Kenneth Lawson, daughter Casey Alderman, sister Julie Carlin and husband Jim, former wife and mother of his children Edina Lawson, grandchildren Alexandria Alderman, Jaxson Clary, Cameron Clary, Charlotte Hastings, Leo Hastings, sixty-four nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, friends and loved ones.
Memorial service will be held Monday, October 30th, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
Rest in peace, Charles Lawson. Your spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
