CHARLES EDWARD LUCAS passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the age of 84. Charlie was born at Woodward, OK on September 4, 1934 to Harry and Myrle (Secrest) Lucas. Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anita (Tosh), daughter, Barbara Knowlton & her husband, Dr. Terry Powell of Claremore, OK; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ryan Vandeveer of Tulsa, OK, Charlene (Charlie) Darrow & her husband, Jason, and daughters, Aubrey & Camdyn of Bixby, OK; Stefan Lucas & his wife, Shandiin, and daughters, Lydia & Violet of Kalispell, MT; Chad Lucas & his wife, Shannon, and children, Andrew & Abigail of Broken Arrow, OK; and Cesilie Gile & her husband, Joe, and children, Kylie, Carter, Aidyn & Sahvanna of Ferndale, WA. Charlie is also survived by his brothers, Myron Lucas of Jay, OK; Wayne Lucas & his wife, Nell of Tulsa, OK; Ray Lucas & his wife, Sue of Texas City, TX; and Jim Lucas of Middleton, ID, and by his sisters, Rea Mae Grisham of Sumner, WA and Faye Shephard and her husband, Roger of Gentry, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Steve Lucas, his brothers, Leroy Lucas and Leland Lucas and his sisters, Margaret Gordon and Thelma Norsworthy. Charlie and Anita were married on June 18, 1955. Anita was a child-bride at only 16 years old and Charlie was 20. Except for brief periods in Altus, OK and Montana, they lived in northeast Oklahoma, and in Broken Arrow for the past 56 years. Charlie was a carpenter and cabinet-maker for more than 50 years, retiring in 1998. He was one in a million! He was the best, sweetest and kindest man ever, with a habit of making funny duck sounds and of making up goofy words by mangling real words; the results were hilarious. Though he was small in stature, his “grands” thought he was larger than life with a heart as big as the universe. He enjoyed helping and spending time with his kids and grandkids any time they needed anything, and he was over-the-moon about all those great-grandbabies! Charlie was a friend a friend would like to have. He had such a funny and witty personality that people instantly loved him, and he was always available if anyone needed help. He will be missed by many.
