Charles McCaw's Obituary
Charles “Charlie” Kiesler McCaw departed this earth December 31, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was born November 22, 1939 in Houston, Texas to Ches and Lucy “Luke” Kiesler McCaw. In 1941, the family moved to Rolla, Missouri where his only sibling, Michael McCaw was born. Excelling at academics and athletics, Charlie attended Rolla High School where he played football and basketball. After high school, Charlie took his love of mathematics to the Missouri School of Mines where he studied mechanical engineering and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Charlie continued his football career playing both offense and defense as four year starter and team captain. Charlie graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and went on to become a Registered Missouri Professional Engineer. On top of sports, engineering and fraternity life, Charlie completed the ROTC program and thus entered the United States Army in 1961 as a second lieutenant. After serving in a number of capacities including combat engineering commander he received an honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant in June 1968. In 1965, Charlie began his engineering career with Cities Service. Later that year he and Margaret “Peggy” Wadick began their 53 year marriage together. Due to the nature of Charlie’s job, the two of them made numerous stops around the country living in Bartlesville, OK, Lake Charles, LA, Chicago, IL, Norman, OK, and finally settling in Tulsa. Along the way they were blessed with the births of their two children Missy and Chip. Working for a number of companies through corporate mergers and acquisitions, Charlie spent the last 12 years of his career working for Williams Pipeline as Vice President of Pipeline until he retired in 1996.As the quiet rock of the family Charlie loved and supported Peg, Mis and Chip in their life long passion for volleyball. He was so proud of them and the great accomplishments they made both on and off the court. Never having played volleyball himself, Charlie instead enjoyed playing soccer for thirty years. Although reserved off the field, he was a ferocious goalie directing and commanding the much younger players around him before retiring from soccer in his late sixties. Charlie also enjoyed playing golf with his golfing buddies two to three times a week.In addition to playing sports, Charlie loved watching the stock market, old westerns and his grandchildren playing their sports. Any extra time was spent as a handyman for friends and family. He could fix anything. Charlie was wise, patient, generous and always reliable. He will be missed by so many. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son Christian “Chip” McCaw and his son Auden McCaw, daughter Marissa “Missy” McCaw-Frette and her husband David Frette and their children Emma and Lars, Brother Mike McCaw and his children Carrie and Jason McCaw.In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to New Hope Oklahoma in his honor.
