Charlie "Chuck" Hill III's Obituary
Charlie passed away September 17, 2016 after 89 years of a life filled with adventure, happiness, and love. His love for airplanes and his patriotism led him to join the US Naval Air at age 17. After returning from service, he moved to Granite, OK in 1946 to work at his grandfather’s weekly newspaper; The Granite Enterprise, and finish his schooling on the GI Bill. There, he met the love of his life: Evelyn Jo Thacker and they married October 2, 1948.Charlie began as a Distribution Clerk for the Tulsa Postal Service in 1949. After managing the window service and various other management positions, he advanced to Postal Examiner and retired after 35 years of service.He was a member of Crosstown Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon, Bible School Teacher, and Chairman of the Mission Committee.He was an avid reader, outdoorsman, and animal lover – in fact, many of his best friends were dogs. He was a treasure hunter – collecting arrowheads, fossils, and coins. He loved aviation and music, and had a beautiful voice. His love of people and sense of humor made everyone feel comfortable and valued. After retirement he was a Tulsa Zoo Docent for several years.He is preceeded in death by his parents: Charles Edgar Hill Jr. and Lucille Ward, step-father, Clyde Ward and step-siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years: Evelyn Jo Hill; children: Steve Hill, Sandy Hill and Lori Robnett; sons-in-law: Frank Robnett and Don Binkley; as well as his granddaughter and joy of his life: Abbey Jo Hodson, and her husband, Bryan Hodson.Viewing will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and family will greet friends that evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with Charlie Kymes officiating. Burial will follow the service at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.Pallbearers will be Dale Biby, Carol Joiner, John Eskew, Wyatt Ogle, Allen Stacey and Jerry Buchanan.Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Smith, Ray Smith, Earl Tillery, Russell Jones and Calvin Cozort.Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.
