Charlotte Sue Chavez's Obituary
Charlotte Sue Chavez, 66, of Broken Arrow, OK passed away from this life on May 11, 2015. Charlotte, loving wife of Jack Chavez, passed away in her home in Broken Arrow after a 5 year battle with cancer. She is survived by husband, Jack, children Jennifer Sahmaunt and husband Ron, Melissa Gill and husband Chris, Amanda Whorton and husband Jason, and son Tommy Chavez. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joel and Sarah Sahmaunt, Allie Gill, Jackson and Austin Whorton, and Tate and Tyler Chavez. She has two surviving brothers, Curtis Crawford and Charles Crawford, Jr., sister, Caryn Clark, niece Tiffany Federwitz, and many other loved family members. Charlotte loved books, writing, traveling, English royalty, antiques, gardening and beautiful music. She watched Jeopardy with her husband each day and joked that she could often win the game. Charlotte was, perhaps, the only stuttering tour guide in the world. She led hundreds of trips to places throughout Oklahoma and the world. As a tour guide for Dream Journeys, Charlotte continually educated her travelers with trivia of local areas and little known historical facts. But Charlotte was most proud of her family. Charlotte and Jack shared 47 years of marriage, often calling their story the greatest love story of all time. She was his “lambie.” Together, they hosted large, chaotic dinners for their family multiple times a month and loved cooking homemade cuisine such as “missy” potatoes, fried okra, and pies. Her grandchildren loved visiting her because they all knew that “Grams never says no,” leading to multiple ice cream treats, peanut butter sandwiches, and soda with each visit. The Thanksgiving holiday in her home always started with a recording of “Amazing Grace” played with bagpipes, celebrating her Scottish heritage, and a blessing for her family: “May God be with you” says one… “And also with you” says the other. Despite her growing illness, Charlotte and her family were able to “camp” one last time this past March. She was able to sit near a campfire, eat grilled hamburgers and s’mores, and enjoy the outdoors one last time just as she had vacationed for the many years her children were small. In her final days, she spoke few words, but she clearly said “I love you.” Charlotte is loved beyond words by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.Memorial Service will be 12:30 PM, Saturday, May 16th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow.
