Obituary of Charlotte (Harbert) Wise September 14, 1930 to July 16, 2017Charlotte Romaine (Harbert) Wise was born September 14, 1930 in Mt. View, Missouri to Russell Frank and Mildred Corrin Harbert. She took her place in God’s heavenly choir on July 16, 2017. In 1951, she graduated from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma with a double major in Music and Home Economics. She received the Virginia McNeely “Outstanding Music Award” and began her teaching career in Henrietta, Oklahoma. She also taught music in Walters, Oklahoma before taking a position as Music Director at Broken Arrow High School where she remained for 23 years. From 1963 through 1976 she directed the all school production of “the Pow Wow,” which was a school musical and comedy production. She remained in that capacity for 13 years until it was discontinued in 1976. During these years she also served as Pep Club, newspaper, and annual sponsor at Broken Arrow High. She was named the Broken Arrow teacher of the year in 1968. In 1973, she met and married Lawrence A. Wise, who preceded her in death on December 30, 1981. During their years together they traveled extensively at home and abroad. For over 59 years Charlotte served as choir director of several churches including the Methodist Church of Walters, Oklahoma, First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, Memorial Park Christian Church of Tulsa, Metro Faith Christian Church of Tulsa and Woodland Christian Church of Tulsa. She was also a member of the Tuesday and Wednesday Bridge Clubs, Broken Arrow Rose Garden Club and South Tulsa Association of retired teachers. In the 1980’s she also appeared in the Broken Arrow Playhouse production of “The Music Man” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.” She is proceeded in death by her husband, Lawrence A. Wise, her parents, Russell and Mildred Harbert, her brother Russell F. Harbert, Jr. and his wife Sue, her sister-in- law, Reba Harbert, a niece’s husband, Steve Woodruff, stepson Donald A. Wise, stepdaughter, Dorothy Bryce and numerous aunts, nephews, uncles, cousins and a host of dear friends. Survivors include her brother, Bob C. Harbert of Bryan Texas, nieces, Deborah Woodruff of Broken Arrow and her family, Donna Farmer and her family of Plano, Texas, nephews, Roger Harbert and his family of San Antonio, Texas and Stuart Harbert and family of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are her step family including John Bryce and June Wise, John Bryce Jr., Kurt Wise, Phil Bryce, Edward Bryce and Larry Bryce and their wives and families.Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 18th, Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 19th, Woodland Christian Church, Tulsa.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Charlotte R. Wise to Woodland Christian Church of Tulsa.
