Cherie Elaine Burgess' Obituary
Cherie Elaine Burgess, 61, of Tulsa, passed away September 16, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 3, 1961 in Oklahoma City. From 1979-1985, she worked at MPSI Systems Inc. and in 1986, she started her career at Dillard’s Department Store. She was a very loyal friend and worker. As a sales associate at Dillard’s she received awards for meeting her sales objectives and for her stellar attendance record. Even as her health was failing, she made sure her job was notified that she wasn’t able to come in that day.
She loved clothes, jewelry and accessories and enjoyed helping her customers and family with their selections. She had an eye for the finer things in life and could readily spot defects in products leading her family to nickname her Inspector #1! Her family loved to get her opinion on purchases to ensure they were getting the value for their purchases.
She loved taking care of her animals including her adopted cat, Winter and dog, Molly. Throughout her life she adopted many pets, taking them into her home providing love and great care.
Family was very important to Cherie. She married Mike Burgess in 1981 and had her first and only child, Danielle, in 1985. Danielle gave her two grandchildren, Hunter and Danica, whom she loved and adored.
Cherie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nancy Cunningham. She is survived by her husband Mike, of 41 years; daughter Danielle, son-in-law, Sam DeWitt, and grandchildren, Hunter and Danica Appel; sister, Debbie and brother-in-law, John Miggins; brother, Blake Cunningham and sister-in-law Cathy. Nieces Christine Rorabaugh, Julia Proctor and Kristen Crowley. Nephews Matt Miggins, Dave Rorabaugh, Robby Proctor, and Alex Crowley.
A memorial service to celebrate Cherie's life will be at 12:30pm, Friday, September 30, 2022 at Floral Haven, 6500 S. 129th E. Ave Broken Arrow, OK. Reception to follow at 2:00pm at Oaks Country Club, 4101 oaks country club dr Tulsa, OK Gate code: 2442* Donations may be made in her honor to the Tulsa SPCA online at www.tulsaspca.org.
