Cheryl Lyn Cannon's Obituary
Cheryl Lyn Cannon was born in Enid, OK on December 13th 1947 to Dwain Luster and Inez Olive (Hayes) Hildinger. She was raised on her family homestead in Nash, OK, along with her two older brothers, Jack and Don. As a child, she grew up among farms and fields on her family’s wheat farm. She had a special tiny bedroom in the farmhouse perfect for the baby girl of the family. She was baptized at First Christian Church of Nash and attended the Nash Schools.In High School she became very close and stayed close throughout her life with her small graduating class. They continue to get together every year to travel and enjoy each other’s company. Cheryl played basketball, was the 4H president, on Annual Staff, Glee Club, was a cheerleader and an FFA member. Cheryl was voted FFA Sweetheart and Most Likely to Succeed as well as earning the title of Salutatorian.Cheryl graduated from Nash High School in 1966 and went on to attend and graduate college at Northwestern Oklahoma University. However, she always loved Oklahoma State University since her childhood.Cheryl met Corbin (Corky) Gene Cannon on a blind date set up by friends, and it was love at first sight. The two were married on March 23rd, 1973 in a dress expertly hand sewn by her mother, Inez, after she simply pointed one like it out in a Bride’s Fashion magazine.Corky and Cheryl have three sons Cory Don, Chad Michael, and Chance Scott. In 1979, the family relocated to Broken Arrow, OK. Her sons were her pride and joy. She was a steadfast baseball mom and spent her free time driving all over the state to attend practices and games to support her boys. She loved “her Cubbies” (the Chicago Cubs) and instilled that love in her boys. Cheryl was a continuous spring of love and support for her family.Cheryl had a long and successful career in the banking industry. She was sought after by many banks to manage their employees. At the apex of her career she was promoted to Vice-President of the prestigious F&M Bank in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Even after she tried to retire, banks continued to pull her out of retirement for her expertise in the industry. She continued to work part-time at Grand Bank up to her passing.It wasn’t until her first grandchild was born that she found her “true purpose in life.” Cheryl decided that she had been born to be a grandmother. Cheryl was a hands-on grandmother and actively helped bring up her grandchildren. Corky and Cheryl held cousin sleepovers that the grandchildren anticipated for days and even weeks. She loved to attend their sporting events, school activities, and church programs.Cheryl passed away February 3rd, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband Corbin Gene Cannon; her brothers and sisters in law, Jack, Fern, Don and Carolyn Hildinger; her sons and daughters in law, Cory, Valarie, Chad, Stacie, and Chance Cannon; step son Corbin Cannon; grandchildren Cougar, Cohen, Juliet, Colton, Brock, Gunner, Hope, Cole, Caden Cannon, and numerous nieces and nephews.-Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 8th, Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, February 9th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with committal service to follow at Flora Haven Memorial Gardens.
