Cheryl Simmons' Obituary
Cheryl “Cherrie” Simmons of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on February 27, 2026, in McKinney, Texas.
Cherrie was born in Aurora, Colorado to Nick and Alice Blauw on December 17, 1944. There she grew up with her brother, Bill and sister, Susie. Cherrie attended Colorado State University for a brief time before setting out on an adventure to Dallas, Texas to fly the skies as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. It was there she met David Simmons, her husband of 46 years. The couple soon moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, the place she raised her family, made too many friends to count, sewed beautiful things and happily gave her time to those who needed it. You could find Cherrie working at clothing boutiques, Troubled Dolls and Lynette’s, treating customers to a fun, honest and laugh-filled shopping experience. She volunteered her time with Assistance Legue of Tulsa and Meals on Wheels. She loved Questers Club. But her most favorite pastime of all were the special Bridge clubs to which she belonged. No matter where she was, Cherrie was laughing and smiling that smile that lingered long after the laughter stopped, as if she knew how to savor every single moment.
Cherrie is preceded in death by her husband, David Simmons and her parents, Nick and Alice Blauw.
Cherrie is survived by her daughters, Nicole Simmons and her husband Ralf Atzor; Lyndie Arnold and her husband Mike Arnold; her brother, Bill Blauw and his wife Marilyn Blauw; her sister, Susie Johnson; her grandchildren, Niklas Atzor, Alina Atzor, Ayden Fallen and Mattie Fallen; her nieces and nephews, Ty Sweeny, Kelley Bradley, Ryan Blauw and his wife Becky, Chris Portale, and Gina Portale; as well as a host of dear friends who will miss Cherrie deeply.
A service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 2:00pm at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The family of Cherrie wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sonja, Casey, Tommy and the many caregivers, chef, and countless employees at Hidden Springs of McKinney, as well as the team at Lovewell Hospice, Cynthia and Katie. Your friendship and support have meant the world to us.
