Christian Stephen Walker's Obituary
Christian Stephen Walker, aged 51, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on August 17, 2024, after a courageous and unyielding battle with cancer. Born on October 20, 1972, in Aspen, Colorado, to Dottie and Steve Walker, Christian lived a life full of wisdom, wit, and creativity.
Christian spent his early years in the mountains of Snowmass, Colorado, before moving to Tulsa, Denver, and later Memphis, where his sister Ashley was born. An exceptional student, he studied calculus at Berkeley in high school and later pursued computer science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Christian launched an extraordinary tech career in San Francisco, contributing to pioneering projects such as Orbitz, Mfoundry, Warner Brothers Studios, Frog Design, and Scoot. His boundless curiosity also led to countless creative endeavors, including apps and minigames. He thoughtfully cultivated a vibrant, close-knit community of friends who cherished his unique spirit, quick wit, and imagination.
Christian was always ahead of the curve, surfing the early days of the tech boom with grand ideas and wild plans, imagining all the possibilities that were about to explode onto the scene. He saw the future coming before most people had even considered it. His curiosity knew no bounds, and he approached life like a puzzle, always searching for the next piece – and in the words of his buddy Shannon, “piecing together the future from scattered bits of it at hand here in the present so we may make something of it in our image.”
Christian was a rare soul who lived life with equal parts wisdom, humor, and imagination. With a quick wit and an eye for the absurd, he turned the mundane into something profound and always left those around him with something to smile about or reflect on. He could turn an ordinary concept like time into something equally funny and profound: "The present is the gift that keeps on giving... like now... and now... and now..." He embodied living in the moment and reminded us all to do the same.
Despite life’s challenges, Christian remained fiercely independent, carving his own path with an unrelenting strength of will. His resilience and humor carried him and his family through even the hardest of moments. He lived by his own design, applying his mighty inner strength and a resolve that was nothing short of superhuman, charting his own path and solutions at every turn – a bedrock principle of our beloved Christian.
Christian’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and creativity will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know him. Though we will miss his wit, humor, and philosophical insights, we know that his spirit is still with us, reminding us to live with purpose, wonder, and determination, as he did.
Christian is survived by his devoted mother Dorothy McArthur and stepfather Buzz McArthur, his loving sister Ashley Chymiy, and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever hold his memory close. He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents.
A celebration of Christian’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Floral Haven’s Rose Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Pastor Steve Cox will officiate, and Christian will be entombed at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in the Heritage Mausoleum.
