Clara Belle May's Obituary
Clara Belle May, 100, of Owasso, went home to meet her Savior on December 10, 2019 at Baptist Village surrounded by her family. She was born on April 6, 1919 at home in Elm Creek Oklahoma, just east of Miami, Oklahoma to Willis and Ethel McNaughton. She was the sixth of seven children. Her family members are proud members of the Peoria Indian Tribe of Oklahoma.She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond May, on May 23, 1942 in Miami, Oklahoma. They were happily married for over 61 years. They had four children: Rita Jean, Martha Ann, Robert Kent and Maxie Anita.Clarabelle taught school for over 30 years with the last 28 years in Owasso public schools. She retired in 1983, when she and Raymond moved to Orwell, Ohio to work in a local church helping their pastors establish a thriving, viable church. They returned to Owasso in 1991 where she served as a Sunday school teacher and other roles at First Baptist church of Owasso until 2015, when her health began to decline. She was a very active person, helping and sewing for everyone. She sewed many clothes to be given away at “Mission Owasso” as well as altered clothes for others.She was preceded in death by her 6 siblings, her husband Raymond and daughters (Martha) Ann Bohannon and Maxie Macy and one great-grandchild.She is survived by her children Rita Jean Shipley of Owasso and Robert Kent May (Martha) of Garden City, Kansas. Six grandchildren Raymond Berry, Owasso; Jenny Bohannon (Will), Denver; Tye Bohannon (Tara), Mound; ‘Tessa Calhoun (Rick), South Carolina; Ronnie May (Kristen), Lawrence, Ks; Summer Miller (Matthew), Garden City, Ks. Sixteen great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.She will be sorely missed by all and yet she has been welcomed into Heaven as a true representation of a “Proverbs 31” woman.Services will take place at 10 am on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Baptist Village of Owasso- 7410 N 127th E Ave, Owasso, OK 74055
