Clara Ruth Vogt's Obituary
Clara Ruth Vogt died Monday, December 25, 2017 at Baptist Village Evergreen in Owasso, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Vogt, December 5, 2017.Clara is survived by her three sons, Deon and wife Margie of Reedley, CA, Arlie of Tulsa, OK, and Gary and wife Sandra of Littleton, CO. Four granddaughters, Alison Sparks and husband Ben, of Grand Prairie, TX, Tiffany Ribera and husband Michael, of Lyons, OR, Rachel Gallagher and husband Jeremiah of Oklahoma City, OK, Brianne Vogt, of Fresno, CA, 12 great grandchildren, one brother, Joe Funk, of Duncanville, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.Clara Ruth Funk was born November 9, 1922 in Corn, OK, the daughter of Marie (Reimer) and Kornelious Funk, she was a longtime resident of Tulsa, OK.Clara was the second of 9 children. She attended Corn Bible Academy for 3 years from 1938 – 1941, where she met her future husband of 72 years, Ray Vogt. She graduated from Corn High School in 1942. Following her graduation from High School, Clara returned home to help with the family farm for one year.In 1943 Clara attended Tabor College, in Hillsboro, KS. During the time period of 1943-1945, she worked as a nanny, a waitress, as well as helping immediate family members care for their families.August 17, 1945 Clara married Raymond F. Vogt, in Premont, TX.In 1948, Clara began her lifetime career as a Mother and a Homemaker with the birth of the first of her three sons, Deon. Deon was born November 23, 1948, followed by Arlie on April 25, 1950 and Gary on June 20, 1957. Clara loved to cook and bake. The boys have many fond memories of eating homemade bean soup with cornbread on Saturday’s, as well as eating homemade zwiebach with many meals.In 1957 the family moved to Tulsa, OK., where Clara began her second career of being a preacher’s wife. She helped Ray in the ministry, leading Bible Studies, and hosting traveling evangelists in their home.Clara lived out her retirement years at the Broadmoor Retirement Community, attending Sheridan Christian Center, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She continued with her love of baking, into her 90’s, leaving memories of homemade bread and peppernuts with family members and friends.Also proceeding her in death were her parents, her sisters: Martha (Elmer) Kliewer, Betty (Lawrence) Fleming, Rose (Alvin) Wiens, and her brothers; Harry, Lawrence, K.R. “Bud”, and Melvin Funk.A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Floral Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6500 S. 129th E Avenue, Broken Arrow, OK. 74012.Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m.
