Clarence "Chip" Eldridge Avery III's Obituary
Clarence Eldridge Avery III, affectionately known as Chip, passed away on May 3, 2024, in Jenks, Oklahoma. He was 53 years old.
Born on May 22, 1970, in Killeen, Texas, Chip was the son of Clarence Eldridge Avery Jr. and Judith Arlene (Robertson) Avery. Throughout his life, Chip touched the hearts of many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
In his school days, Chip had a passion for building model cars, airplanes, and boats. He loved putting things together and had a natural curiosity for how things worked. His hands were always busy, creating intricate models that fascinated those around him.
Chip’s athletic abilities were diverse. He excelled in martial arts, swimming, and basketball. His competitive spirit and determination made him a force to be reckoned with on the court and in the water. And, of course, he couldn’t forget chasing girls – a pursuit that brought both laughter and heartache.
After graduating, Chip’s first job at McDonald’s lasted only two days. He quickly realized that his true calling lay elsewhere. Across the street, at Alvin Ord’s Shop, he found his niche. With access to over 600 acres, Chip reveled in the outdoors, riding motorcycles, and exploring the vast landscape.
His love for cars led him to a career as a professional automotive refinisher. From the age of 19, he honed his skills in paint and bodywork, leaving his mark on countless vehicles. His last job was with the Nelson Group at Alpha Paint and Body, where his craftsmanship was admired by colleagues and clients alike.
Sturgis 2011 was Chip’s favorite vacation. Driving a semi from Canada to the U.S., he experienced the thrill of the open road. In his twenties, he crisscrossed the country, living in every state except for Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Even while driving the semi, he managed to venture into Mexico, adding another stamp to his passport.
Chip found peace in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and at Skiatook Lake. These serene places allowed him to reflect, recharge, and appreciate life’s simple pleasures. Riding his Hayabusa going 220 mph down to Muskogee, skydiving, buying his first Corvette in 2014, and acquiring his 202C8 were life-changing moments that shaped his journey.
He often said, “There were too many great people to name who had an impact on my life. They know who they are.” Chip’s accomplishments included helping the Nelson Group open their first body shop, earning a degree in welding, obtaining his CDL, and traveling the country.
Chip’s favorite color was red, and he had an affinity for checkerboard patterns and abstract art. His favorite book was “Lonesome Dove,” a tale of adventure and camaraderie. But beyond his interests and achievements, Chip will be remembered as a man who showed respect when respect was due. He thought outside the box, was considerate of others, and didn’t tolerate excuses. As a leader, coach, and teacher, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
Chip was a believer in Jesus, and his faith was a quiet strength that guided him. He didn’t push his beliefs on others but lived them out in his actions. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to help those in need reflected the love he felt for his fellow human beings.
As a friend and confidant, Chip was a rock for those who sought his counsel. His wisdom and empathy made him someone people turned to during difficult times. When life hit rock bottom, Chip didn’t waver. He held onto his faith, kept moving forward, and rose above the challenges that came his way.
Chip’s unwavering commitment to doing the right thing was evident in every aspect of his life. He stayed focused on God, even when circumstances were tough. His resilience and determination inspired those around him.
Survived by his parents, sister, nieces, nephews, and ex-wife, Chip’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His impact extended far beyond the workshop and the open road – it reached the depths of the human spirit.
The visitation to honor Chip’s memory will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 12:30 PM on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
Rest in peace, dear Chip. Your journey continues in the hearts of those who loved you.
