I first met Clark twenty years ago when he was a counselor at Indian Health Clinic. Later I was on the board of TK Wolf with Clark, even serving as President. Clark and I became closer during that time. We've been in the sweat lodge and medicine wheel ceremonies together. He was a man who needed help to face life's challenges. He found that help by serving others and serving God. His countenance and relaxed mood was soothing to those in need. For all he has done…thank you Clark for your service. Clark Inkanish was a complex person. Master teacher, counselor and leader of ceremonies, he always said his favorite role was fireman–building the fire to heat the rocks to be brought into the sweat lodge. As he worked he joined the dance of fire becoming sacred. As counselor he understood the suffering of others from his own lifetime of pain from early and lasting injury. He would later describe a hole in his being that could not be filled or healed. Your work completed, rest now in much deserved peace Clark.

Clark's dedication for sobriety in the Native American society was instrumental for me in 1991. This is when I got to know Clark when I became involved with the first "Trail of Hope" Indian AA Conference. I was sadden to read of Clark's passing. Those of us fortunate enough to witness and participate in the cedar blessings that he lead will always remember how he conducted the blessings with foremost honor and dignity. He was a trusted collaborator and and a great contributor to our efforts in assisting American Indian owned businesses.
