Cody Wayne Shafer's Obituary
Cody Wayne Shafer was born on November 3rd, 1995 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Terry and Elizabeth Shafer. The younger brother to Tarabeth Shafer. Cody attended Union Public Schools from Pre-k until he graduated in 2014. Cody excelled at anything he put his mind to, and he was a very accomplished athlete. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, swimming, and soccer and eventually found his niche in football. Cody played football up until an unfortunate back injury. After football, Cody began swimming again and eventually started rowing. Although he was two years behind he ended up accomplishing so many of his goals. He went to Nationals, was a nationally ranked youth rower, and eventually went to college with a rowing scholarship. At the time of his passing, Cody was a sophomore studying pre-med at Oklahoma City University and a varsity rower. Cody accomplished so much in his short time on this Earth. Along with rowing, Cody was a seasoned traveler and enjoyed a variety of hobbies such as Air Soft, bicycling, long boarding, avid Lego architect, hours of building Sim cities and other video games with his friends. He is survived by his parents, Terry and Elizabeth Shafer, sister Tarabeth, maternal grandmother Heidi Choney, Aunt Debbie and James Howard of Ardmore, Aunt Jan Sartor of Tulsa, Uncle Mark Choney and Janna Choney of Ponca City, Uncle Chris Choney of Ponca City, many cousins; Jimmie Kennedy, Ashley, Brian, and Jeremy Simmons, Eagle Choney, Markyla Choney, Marc Anthony Choney, Christopher Choney, Gracie Choney, Audrey Choney. Upon his entrance to paradise he will be met by his paternal grandparents Wayne and Ola Shafer, his maternal grandfather Errol Choney and his wife Jolene Choney. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Tulsa Youth Rowing Association to help re-build their boat house after a tragic fire last month, as well as the Suicide Prevention Foundation, and To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit organization dedicated helping people struggling with depression, addiction, self-harm, and suicide. At Cody’s memorial we would love for anyone to bring any pictures of Cody they would like displayed.
