Cora B. Baker's Obituary
Cora Bronaugh Baker died unexpectedly on June 29, 2016. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 6, 1931 to Clarence T. and Blanche Bronaugh. Cora attended Holdenville High School and The University of Oklahoma, where she received a B.A. in Sociology/Social Work. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Robert W. Baker, Jr.Our Mother loved the Lord our God and raised her family to lead a Christian life. Cora was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Tulsa Town Hall Past President, Junior League of Tulsa, Gilcrease Gillies, Tulsa Boys’ Home as well as many other organizations. Cora was a kind and loving person who cared deeply for her family and many friends, especially, her Theta Birthday Group, and Book Club, “The Bookies”.She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Baker Brown, Robert W. Baker, III and Nancy Baker Hicks and her husband, Jim. Family was a top priority for Cora and she demonstrated this by attending most all of her children’s and then grandchildren’s innumerable sporting and school events. “Mimi” loved and was very proud of all of her grandchildren: Brad Brown and wife, Andrea; Anne Brown, Molly Baker, Hannah Hicks, Stan Hicks, Robert W. Baker, IV (“Rob”) ” and great-granddaughters, Tennyson Brown and Marlowe Brown.Cora was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nancy Bronaugh Gullatt and grandson, Christopher N. Baker. Cora is survived by her brother, C.T. Bronaugh and wife, Vicki, cousin Don Hamilton and sister-in-laws Anne Baker Bartholet, Joan Baker Darby and husband, Jim. She also leaves behind Godchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a myriad of close friends.Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Tulsa; Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma or a charity of your choosing.
