Coralee Herndon's Obituary
Coralee Downs Herndon, 98, resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away
May 1, 2023. Coralee was born December 27, 1924 in Vinson, Oklahoma to David
A. Downs and Leona (Hasley) Downs
Coralee grew up in western Oklahoma where her siblings joined her and their
Father growing cotton. Later she would move to Oklahoma City.
Coralee married Edward Herndon on May 16, 1947. Their marriage was blessed by
two children, Vicki Lynn and Edward Neal. During their marriage they lived in
Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Kansas City, Kansas; and
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. In their later years they were very active with square
dancing and travel. They remained happily together for 72 years, until the passing
of Edward in 2019.
Coralee was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking and
sewing, and excelled at both. While raising a family she also worked part time at
JC Penny and a few dry cleaners, doing alterations. She was a devout Christian and
attended church until unable to do so. Coralee was also an avid reader in her later
years, and loved discussing and trading books with friends and family.
Coralee is preceded in passing by all her siblings, her husband Edward and
daughter Vicki Lynn Marton. Coralee is survived by her son Edward Neal and his
wife, Annie (Crawford) Herndon; grandchildren Brooke Marton, Travis Herndon
and his wife Jenny (Hahn) Herndon, Marshall Herndon and his wife Lacey
(Wisinger) Herndon; great-grandchildren Declan Herndon and Margo Herndon.
The funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Monday, May 8, 2023, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
