Corinne Malone's Obituary
Corinne Malone, 82, passed from this life Friday, May 4, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Corinne Elizabeth Roden Malone was born April 17, 1936 in Poteau, Oklahoma, to Ferris and Lora Marie (Russel) Roden.Corinne married her first husband, Charles Dean Ballenger, July 17, 1954. They had three children: Janice, Rick and Michael. Dean was best friends with Corinne’s brother, Jim. Dean acted like he was going to see Jim, when he was actually going to see Corinne. She acquired another son, Mike Malone, November 11, 1983 when she married Bobbie James Malone.Corinne was very energetic. She loved cleaning her house and being with her family, camping but, she liked cleaning while she camped, also. Corinne loved to go shopping, country music, listening to Waylon Jennings, dancing, cooking, especially sweets, gardening, canning, and playing games. Corinne knew every word to Waylon’s songs up to about a year ago. She sang Amazing Grace with Reitha at Gregory’s funeral. When Janice was little and sick, Corinne left her with her grandmother while Corinne had to go by foot to get Janice’s medication. When Rick was born, Corinne stayed home long enough to watch what she called Palentane (Have Gun Will Travel) before going to the hospital. She was real proud when all of her grandchildren were born. She drank strong black coffee. Corinne started drinking coffee from a teaspoon when she was a baby. Being the oldest girl, at the age of six, she helped take care of her brothers and sisters. She had to quit school in the eighth grade to help with the kids. Corinne and her sister, Reitha lived next door to each other. They would get together and drink coffee and have fun.Corinne always made sure the kids ate first because when she was young the grown ups would eat first and the kids were hungry. She put others’ needs before her own.Corinne’s grandkids would be in her arms while she cooked. Jimmy said they loved to gather around the kitchen and watch her cook.Corinne will be dearly missed by her children: Janice Byford, Rick Ballenger and wife Janice, and stepson Mike Malone and wife Patty; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 (two) on the way; siblings Rietha Hoover, Frank Roden, Sue and husband Jim Talley and Connie Johnson; sister-in-law Alice Boswell; brother-in-law Leonard Ballenger; host of extended family and friends.Corinne is preceded in death by her parents; first husband and father of her children, Charles Dean Ballenger; son Michael Wayne Ballenger; second husband Bobbie James Malone; grandson Gregory Byford; granddaughter Kelli Byford; brothers Jack Roden, Jim Roden, and Larry Roden; and son-in-law Robert Byford.A graveside service will be held Monday, May 7, 2018, 1:00 PM in the Veterans Field of Honor Phase II at the Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
