Craig William Thurmond's Obituary
Craig William Thurmond, 71, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, has passed away at his home on August 7, 2025.
Born on March 11, 1954, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Craig lived a life dedicated to faith, service, community, and family. Whether serving his country in the Marine Corps, helping to develop the city of Broken Arrow into a thriving community, or supporting his family in all of their endeavors, Craig’s quiet kindness and steadfast dedication to others shined through.
Craig’s life was that of fostering community and love. He spent four years in the Marine Corps serving our country and would later go on to become an integral part in home development helping to create communities for families to thrive. Known for his constant leadership, unwavering integrity, and servant’s heart, Craig spent decades sitting on the Broken Arrow City Council and when needed stepped into the role of mayor. Always with the well-being of his constituents in mind, Craig diligently served his community through periods of growth and progress building Broken Arrow into the beautiful, safe city that it is today.
Craig’s commitment to the service of others extended beyond city hall as he was actively involved in numerous civic boards, charitable initiatives, and community projects. He played an active role in the lives of his loved ones, always eager to help them in any way that he could. Whether leading a council meeting, lending a hand at a local event, or guiding a family member through the intricacies of life, Craig’s dedication to helping others was evident in all that he did.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Thurmond; his son, Gary Thurmond and his family; and his stepchildren, Scott, John, Mark, Aaron, Aleigh, and Adam. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Thurmond; his nephew, Jeremy Rush; and many extended family members, dear friends, and colleagues who will carry his memory forward.
Craig will be remembered not only for his leadership but also for his warmth, generosity, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His legacy will live on in the community he helped shape and the countless lives he touched.
