Daniel Rivera's Obituary
Daniel Rivera, beloved husband, veteran, and community servant, passed away on August 9, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 58.
Born on October 25, 1966, in Lynnwood, California, Daniel was the son of Donald Moody and Carolyn Murray. From an early age, he showed a deep curiosity about the world and an unwavering dedication to those around him — qualities that would define his life and legacy.
Daniel proudly served in the United States Navy as a mechanic and firefighter. His military service took him overseas, including to Spain — the land of his ancestors — and to Italy, places that deepened his appreciation for culture, history, and connection.
Following his service, Daniel lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and a commitment to growth. He served as a Rabbi for 30 plus years, providing spiritual guidance and counsel to many. In California, he also worked in the mental health field, bringing care and support to those facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. He later completed a computer certification and was working towards a bachelor’s degree in Family Studies from Southern Nazarene University, demonstrating his belief in lifelong learning and service.
Daniel married the love of his life, Michaela Rivera, in March of 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their bond was filled with love, deep conversation, and shared dreams.
Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a big talker with a unique and vibrant personality — someone who could light up a room with his words, his warmth, and his passion. He loved his family deeply and valued health and nutrition, often sharing advice and encouragement with those around him.
Daniel leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life.
Daniel is preceded in death by his father, brother Steven, brother Jonathan.
Daniel is survived by his wife Michaela Rivera, mother Carolyn, sister Terrie Mohl, sister Amy J Castillo McDaniel, along with numerous friends and families.
Services are pending at this time but will take place at Ft Gibson National Cemetery at a later date.
