Dara Lee Wood's Obituary
Dara Lee Wood, 88, of Broken Arrow, passed away on January 25, 2024. Born on June 7, 1935, to the late Earl and Viola Husby, Dara, affectionately known as Granny, left a lasting impact on those who knew her. Granny was a unique soul, unafraid to speak her mind and make decisions with unwavering determination. Her heart, though sometimes pushy, was undeniably good. Residents of Emerald Nursing Home, where she spent her final days, will fondly remember her spirited interactions, alternating between colorful language and blown kisses. Raised on a farm, Dara embraced hard work, willingly contributing to yard maintenance, mowing, and gardening. Whether on ATV or fishing trips, she was always up for an adventure—except when it came to water, a source of nervousness for her.
Dara dedicated 27 years of her life to ATT as a long-distance telephone operator, earning numerous awards and commendations. Her retirement party was a testament to her likability and the impact she had on colleagues. Known to enjoy her Crown Royal, Granny had a unique way of crafting her drink, combining Jack Daniels with a generous splash of Crown Royal. Her ability to handle liquor with grace was a talent appreciated by those who knew her well.
Despite her strong exterior, Dara had a soft spot for birds, feeding them daily and collecting bird figurines with a passion. Her love for life, appreciation for a well-lived existence, and her unique charm will be deeply missed.
In her memory, Dara Lee Wood leaves a legacy of a life well-lived and a reminder that life with her was truly special. Rest in peace, Granny.
Dara was preceded in passing by her parents; she is survived by her sister, JoAnn Nitz; her son, Joe Womack and his wife, Xiumei; son, Marty Womack; daughter Karen Brooks; her grandchildren, Laura, Jack, Crystal, Beth, Candace, and Jennifer; and numerous great-grandchildren.
