Darrall Eugene Lewis' Obituary
Darrall Eugene Lewis, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, departed this life peacefully on December 4, 2025, just shy of his 83rd birthday. Born on December 21, 1942, in Tulsa, he was raised by parents who instilled in him the values of integrity, hard work, and loyalty—principles that guided him throughout his life. He answered to many names—Mr. Lewis, Speedy, The Bronco Godfather, Papa, and Dad—each spoken with the deepest respect by those who loved him.
From a young age, Darrall displayed an innate curiosity for how things worked. Much to his father's frustration, he often removed random parts from the family tractor, unknowingly laying the foundation for his lifelong passion for mechanics. This early fascination led to a remarkable career in auto repair, and ultimately, to his greatest automotive passion: classic Ford Broncos. His deep knowledge and love for Broncos fostered lifelong friendships within the Bronco community—connections he deeply treasured.
Darrall touched countless lives simply by being who he was: steady, humble, loyal, and giving. His willingness to share his skill and knowledge in auto repair, along with the example he set through honest, ethical work, left an enduring impact on many. His legacy is one his son and grandsons
proudly carry on in their own auto repair professions—careers made possible and meaningful through his guidance and inspiration.
Darrall retired in 2010 from Chesser Auto Service, where he proudly served for 42 years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Caroline Lewis, his steadfast partner and source of strength. Together they raised three children: Teresa Roberts and husband Andrew of Wichita Falls, TX; Leslie Basham of Tulsa; and Darrin Lewis and wife Tracy of Tulsa. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and his nephew, Billy Ray Young.
To his children, Darrall will forever be remembered as a loving, dedicated father whose guidance was boundless. His legacy lives on through the memories held close by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Vonnie Lewis; his sisters, Beatrice Nichols and Mildred Young; and his son-in-law, Phillip Basham.
The family is preparing a Celebration of Life to honor Darrall in the way he deserves and to give the many friends he made over the years the opportunity to gather, remember, and share stories of the man who meant so much to so many. Details will be shared once finalized.
May Darrall's soul rest in eternal peace and may his memory remain a guiding light to his family, his friends, and the Bronco community he cherished so much.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Seasons Hospice and Clarehouse for the compassion and care they provided, ensuring his comfort and offering invaluable support to the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Clarehouse Hospice, 7617 S. Mingo Rd., Tulsa, OK 74133 (https://clarehouse.org).
