Darrell Glen Smittle's Obituary
Darrell Glen Smittle, age 94, passed away on Saturday, November 26th, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife and family at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma.Darrell was born to Darrell Guy and Marguerite (Killion) Smittle on July 28, 1922 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Tulsa Central High in 1940 excelling in Tennis and went on to attend Montana State University and serve as a Flight Officer in the Army Air Corps.Darrell had a lifetime interest in Aviation, was a pilot and became a well-respected Mechanical Engineer with Hardman Tool & Engineering and Flight Safety. He was an inventor and held several patents including the first aircraft seat-foldable tray table. In retirement, Darrell was an avid wood-worker and loved spending time with friends and family.Darrell is preceded in death by his son Darrell Allen Smittle, grandson James Davis and survived by his wife Meta Smittle of Tulsa, Ok, son Don Stewart Smittle and his wife Pai, of Chiang Mai, Thailand, daughter-in-law Shirley Smittle of Edmond, OK, step-son Jefferson Davis and his wife Didi, step-daughter Diane Dahlgren and her husband Raymond of West Linn, OR, grandchildren Bryan and Sherri Smittle of Norman, OK, Darrell Stewart Smittle and his wife, Jill Smittle of Edmond, OK, Doug Smittle of Edmond, OK, Katherine Morey and her husband Howard of Tulsa Oklahoma and Emily Davis of Tulsa Oklahoma in addition to nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.Darrell’s life was one that was full of love and was well lived. We will all miss him greatly.The memorial service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on Friday, December 2nd at 1 pm, in the Worship Center.
