David Alex Kindred Sr.'s Obituary
David A. Kindred, 67, of Tulsa, Ok., passed away August 13, after a long courageous fight with pulmonary illness. David was born Jan. 5,, 1947, in Newton, Ks., to Elizabeth and Turner Kindred. Preceded in death by both parents and brothers Turner, Jr. and John.As a young boy the family moved to Henryetta, Ok. where David attended school. After graduating from Henryetta High School, David attended East Central University in Ada graduating with a BA and BS degree. David worked for Ray James and Assoc. in Ada when he received his architectural license. While attending an Army Reserve meeting in Tulsa, he met his wife, Linda on a blind date. This November 1, they would have celebrated their 46th anniversary. Soon after they married they moved to Tulsa where David went to work and became a partner with MPI architectural firm. In 1990 David became the sole owner changing the name to KPI, Inc. KPI was the University of Tulsa’s architect for many years. In the 1980’s David started designing schools in California, where he became one of the top three architects for the California School District. He also designed for the Union Public School District.David was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. He was led by a strong faith in all aspects of his life. One of David’s passions was serving on the Board of Salvation Army where he was instrumental in starting the Christmas food baskets. He also enjoyed flying his Waco bi-plane, and when he wasn’t in the air he could be found riding his bicycle. He and his sons enjoyed many memorable fishing trips to West Yellowstone.David is survived by his wife, Linda, sons, David and Scott and his wife, Terry. Grandchildren, Calvin, Brecken, Ellison, Grayson, Carter, and Tatum, all of Tulsa. A sister, Janet Dunn of Choctaw, Oklahoma, nephew, Bill Fisher and wife Heather, of Tulsa, a very special niece Malinda Neal of Wilson, Oklahoma, and other niece and nephews, Jennifer, Turner, Chris and Nathan.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 18, 2014 at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Salvation Army.
