David B. Ashby's Obituary
David Bradford Ashby was born on January 11, 1958 in Walnut Creek, California, just east of Oakland. He died May 5, 2014 in Tulsa after a brave battle with cancer at the age of 56 with family by his side.David was the son of Val Jean, a physicist, and Ann, a teacher. David grew up in Northridge, California, which in the 1960s was a new Los Angeles housing development surrounded by orange groves and ranches. David was an avid member of the Boy Scouts, became an Eagle Scout in high school, and loved to hike in the boulder-filled mountains near Northridge. He graduated from Chatsworth High School in 1976, and went on to graduate from California State University at Northridge with a degree in psychology.Following graduation he moved to Tulsa and proudly served as an officer with the Tulsa Police Department from 1981 to 1995. Afterwards he opened Patrol Technology, a retail store that served emergency responders, which remained in business until the time of his death.David married Deborah Hudson in 1992. They divorced in 2012 after 20 years of marriage.David is survived by his son, Jonathon Hunter Ashby, 13, and a stepson Stephen Scott Hudson, 31. He is also survived by his mother Ann, who lives in Northridge, and his two older brothers, Craig Ashby who lives in Thousand Oaks, California and Steven Ashby who lives with his wife C.J. Hawking and daughters Wyatt and Evangelina in Oak Park, Illinois. David was preceded in death by his father Val Jean, who passed in 2004.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. A reception will immediately follow at the Floral Haven Family Center.
