Dave Cross' Obituary
David Earl Cross, 84, passed from this life on November 7, 2023, in Henryetta, Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 3 pm at
Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, 6500 S 129th E Avenue, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Born November 26, 1938, to Earl and Nona Key Cross in Poteau, Oklahoma, David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Joanne Cross, and younger brothers Jim Cross (Roberta) and Bob Cross (Judy). He is also survived by son Greg Cross (Susie), daughter Stacie Cross Barnett and bonus children Mark McCurdy (Carrie) and Krista Pierce (Christopher). He was immensely proud of his grandchildren: Megan Cross, Hayden Barnett, Jack Barnett, Brian McCurdy (Cassie), Cameron McCurdy, Bryce Venable, Paige Gaston (Sidney), Matt Creason, and great grandson Beau Gaston.
David graduated high school from Northeast High School in Oklahoma City in 1956. He went on to play running back, defensive back, and quarterback for Oklahoma State University’s Cowboys, lettering all four years. While at Oklahoma State, he earned a master’s degree then began his career as a high school math teacher and coach. Dave’s long and varied professional life included posts at IBM and Motorola corporations, entrepreneurship in the data technology and mortgage industries, and culminated at the helm of his own mortgage lending company.
David enjoyed reading, biographies, history, and was an avid golf player. He kept a wide circle of loyal, lifelong friends whom he valued greatly, along with his extended family. He was a member of Woodland Acres Baptist Church, where he often read to Sunday School students. Dave’s love for and devotion to Joanne, his wife of nearly five decades, grew stronger with each year.
