David Geddie's Obituary
David James Geddie died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 18th, 2019 after a courageous 14 month battle with Glioblastoma. He was born on June 11th, 1959 to Jim Geddie and Barbara (Geddie) Payne in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His family moved to the United States when he was in kindergarten, although he has never forgotten his Canadian heritage. He was involved in Boy Scouts as a child and proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He married his high school sweetheart Kathryn Lynn Schmall on August 11th, 1979. David had a successful career in the IT field as a Global Delivery Services Executive, but his most cherished job was caring for his family. He was a loving husband to his “bride”, devoted father to his children, and his most honored title was “Bumpa” to 6 grandchildren. David had many hobbies. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and in his younger years he was a licensed pilot. This naturally led to a love of travel. He had many opportunities to travel for work and for fun and enjoyed chronicling his adventures on Facebook. He loved to try new foods and was an excellent chef. He always joked with his family about “expanding their culinary horizons”. He had a love for music and was a talented pianist. He enjoyed composing and recording music in his home studio. He also served the church as a worship leader for many years. Above all, David had a love for the Lord. He was passionate about being an example of Jesus to anyone he met. This led him to going back to school, pursuing his Master of Arts in Theology, and becoming a fully ordained minister. He felt honored to personally baptize all of his grandchildren. He was a gifted communicator and skilled leader. David had a way of making everyone around him feel special. He is survived by his parents; his 2 brothers, John and Michelle (spouse) Geddie of Sand Springs, OK, Paul and Katrina (spouse) Geddie of Saugus, CA; his wife Kathy of 39 years; his 3 children, Ashley and Andy (spouse) Petersen of Bixby, OK, Kevin and Melissa (spouse) Geddie of Ladera Ranch, CA, and Megan and Nate (spouse) Swope of Independence, KY; his 6 grandchildren, Latch, Locke, and Link Petersen, Conrad Geddie, and Selah and Dassah Swope; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that are all blessed to have been touched by his life. Visitation and viewing will be 5-7pm, Wednesday May 22, 2019 at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, OK. A Celebration of Life Service will be held the following morning Thursday May 23, 2019 at 11:30am at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 146 S. Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK 74112. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ablaze Church in Broken Arrow, OK to further David’s legacy to share the love of Christ.
