Dear Gibson Family, I was blessed to spend two weeks with David while he learned more about health and nutrition. Such a short amount of time in our lives; yet, I saw first hand that everything already written on this wall is so true of David. He enriched my life as well as all of the staff's lives. His smile is engraved on our hearts. When he learned something wasn't wise or healthy, he instantly changed his course to do what was wise and healthy! And he didn't compromise. And he did it with joy! He had a servant's heart, never thinking too much about himself. I remember visiting with Tracie on the phone when she called to arrange his stay at our Center. Tho her son was battling cancer, she was filled with joy and laughter. She was an example to me. She was an example to David. David shared with us so many fun memories he had because of abundant family activities. He was blessed and thankful to be a part of the Gibson Family. My heart and prayers are with all of you. In my English class during David's senior year, it seemed like it took awhile for David and me to become acquainted. Once I realized how shy he was, I began to go out of my way to converse with him. It didn't take long for me to realize what an outstanding young man he was. He demonstrated Christ-like character every day. He loved people, and he proved that every day in the way he treated everyone around him. He was my Disney son, and I'll always be grateful to David for teaching me the value of listening. His courage and his smile will remain with me.
From the minute I met David, I could see something in him that was truly remarkable, and after reading his obituary that just confirmed it. His smile was absolutely contagious….. I can't even begin to imagine what you all are going thru, but hopefully you will be able to find some peace in knowing how many ppl that David inspired. I am deeply sorry for your loss..
David was a hard headed guy, but in a good way! He knew right from wrong, and he was going to do the right thing no matter what… simply because it was the right thing to do. I don't believe being "cool" or trying to fit in with the group ever crossed his mind. That kind of stuff never affected the decisions he made, and that was one of the things I really admired about him. His self worth was not found in what others thought of him, he kind of generated his own self worth and confidence. The way he acted around his peers reminds me of a quote I once heard… "Just be yourself, because the people who matter don't mind, and the people that mind, don't matter." David never pretended to be something he wasn't, and I think that's pretty stinking cool. I look forward to seeing him again some day.
