David Haymes' Obituary
David Lee Haymes passed away on July 12, 2024 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was born on August 25, 1931, in Cushing, Oklahoma to Harold Willard Haymes and Eleanor Genevieve Mercer Haymes during the great depressions.
After his father and mother were saved, he became a preachers kid.
David married Lois Ann Billingsley on August 28, 1954 in Cushing, Oklahoma.
David and Ann had a deep love for music, playing together for 61 years as organist and pianist to nine different Baptist church's in the Tulsa area. After Ann's passing, David became the organist at Harvard Avenue Baptist church in Tulsa. He often told his daughter how much he loved Harvard Avenue Baptist church and of all the church's he served, Harvard Avenue Baptist was his favorite.
David worked for Cushing Motors as parts manager. When he moved to Tulsa he worked for Milner Pontiac / Premier Pontiac for 36 years. He worked part-time for Lister Pontiac and Chalmers Chevrolet after he retired in September of 1992.
David was not passionate about traveling but was passionate about his beloved wife who loved to travel. They traveled to Mexico, St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Spain, Italy, France, Alaska, Germany, Austria many places on cruises.
David was a avid reader and was known to read multiple books in a week.
He was outspoken, opinionated and always spoke his mind. He would often say "Don't ask me if you don't want to hear what I think", and often gave his opinion without being asked.
David cherished his family and was deeply devoted to them. He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones. His love for Jesus was unwavering and guided him through out his life.
His passion also extended to his allen organ and his dog, Bolo. He was so found of his organ and his dog he carried a picture of them in his wallet but there were no pictures of his children in his wallet. This remains a source of great humor to his son and daughter to this day.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
David is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Eleanor Haymes, his son David Mark Haymes, his wife Lois Ann Haymes and brother Don Haymes.
David is survived by his son Kriss Haymes and wife Tammy, daughter Lori Hanlon and husband Tom, daughter-in-law Janet Haymes, grandchildren Katie Middaugh and husband Brett, Krissi Green and husband Denver, Daniel Haymes, Leanne Lee and husband B.J., Joshua Haymes and wife Madison, Matthew Haymes and wife Emma, Kariss Gong and husband Xuxiang, Andrew Haymes, great-grandchildren Karleigh Bolen, Karson Hanlon, Stella Middaugh, Mickey Middaugh, Landon Green, Eli Green, Lyla Green, Nora Lee, Ronni Lee, Julian Lee, Caleb Haymes, Levi Haymes, Nathaniel Haymes, Lucy Haymes and great-great granddaughter Iris Leigh Winton.
Celebration of life will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Harvard Avenue Baptist (3235 E 17th St, Tulsa, OK 74104)
