Colin, John, Larry & Barb, Just want you to know I am lost for words on the passing of Dave. I had the honor of being his football coach @ ElkHorn-Kimballton. Dave was a true student & athlete - An athlete his teammates believed in and put forth their constant effort to make the Danes winners, which they did. Dave's leadership lead the 1970 Danes to an 8-1 season, only losing to the state's #1 class A team. Dave was not only a football player of mine but a biker across IA's Ragbrai Ride w/me & other teammates. A true go-getter, lots of good times. A true friend. So glad I celebrated my 80th B'day with Dave and his Dane Teammates. Dave RIP. Coach Heaton.
Enjoyed having Dave as a friend and fellow elder together at Our Savior Lutheran church. Remember going to his home where he showed me his recurve bow collection and told me how he selected special branches of certain types of trees to use for making each one. Fascinating to listen to his knowledge of trees and types of wood needed to make the perfect recurve. I’m privileged to have known Dave and look forward to someday have more chats with him in our heavenly home.
As a long time Iowa friend of the Jave family, I was saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Many years ago we shared some very memorable outdoor adventures and campfires.
Dave's physical, spiritual and character strengths were qualities to be admired and aspired to. It was a privilege to have known Dave. He will be greatly missed.

I am saddened to learn of Dave's death. He and I worked at Cascia Hall for many years, he keeping the campus beautiful, I teaching middle school English.
Dave was reserved but always friendly. We visited with each other quite regularly over the years and talked easily about whatever came to mind. He came into the Middle School building often to walk down the first floor hallway, and we'd share thoughts on the students' displays of art and literature posted on the bulletin boards. He spoke quietly and thoughtfully but smiled quickly and often.
To those who knew and loved him, please accept my sincere sympathy.
