Delmar Linn Thomason's Obituary
Delmar Linn Thomason of Broken Arrow OK, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at the age of 72. Linn was born November 14, 1945 in Tulsa OK to the late Delmar Thomason and Naomi Townsend Thomason. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lee Thomason of Broken Arrow OK, his son Ryan Thomason of Houston TX, his sister, Rebecca West of Pryor OK and was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Thomason, extended family members and many very special friends. He graduated from Pryor High School in 1964 and Northeastern State University, Tahlequah OK in 1968 and went on to attend Brenau University in Gainesville GA completing several requirements toward an MBA (but those that knew him know that he was a Master without the last couple of hours and a piece of paper). After graduating from college, Linn’s business career began in Tulsa at IBM and Telex. That was followed by work at Williams where he developed new and specific systems using his knowledge of financial principals and economic analysis. These positions led to 23 years in the specialty gas industry, requiring several relocations, finally coming full circle back to Tulsa. He served in the Army National Guard 1968 through 1972 and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.Linn was a sports fan and from a young age played baseball and football (yes, even at only 5’ 7”!) through high school. He would never let you mistake him as anything but an OU football fan, but his true passion was the outdoors – especially hunting and fishing. He was featured in Outdoor Life Magazine with an article detailing an elk hunting trip to Colorado where he bagged what was at first thought to be a new world record. Not to mention he was also the guy on the cover. His love of fishing was not limited to the lakes that we live around, but included fly fishing on fresh water streams in Montana and salt water fishing for Tarpon or sharks in the Florida Keys. Anything outdoors was what he enjoyed like playing golf, or running (and completing) the first 16 Tulsa Runs, and to make us jealous did a few triathlons as well. After retiring, Linn had time to become more involved with the Oil Capital Rod and Gun Club, not only as a board member, but as a part of a team of friends that made sure that the club was up and running not only for the members, but for the groups that came to enjoy the outdoors. He was especially proud when youth groups like the Boy Scouts and school groups participating in target competitions came to enjoy their work. He was also a board member of his homeowner’s association. He brought his contagious “we can fix that” attitude to both, as well as to anyone who needed the help and a smile.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Floral Haven.
