Deviben D Narotam's Obituary
Deviben Narotam was born on August 24, 1929, in Nogama Pardi, Gujarat, India. She spent the first sixteen years of her life there, developing both a healthy fear of snakes and, more importantly, a strong foundation of resilience and hard work that would carry her through a remarkable life.
At the age of sixteen, she married Devabhai Narotam. What followed was an extraordinary journey across the world by boat—from India to Japan, onward to the coast of California, and finally to Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad became her home for the next twenty-four years. There, she raised her six children and, through determination and perseverance, taught herself to speak and read English. At the age of forty-five, Deviben began yet another chapter, moving to England, where she was soon widowed at the age of 47
This marked the final and longest chapter of her life—a chapter defined by love. She devoted herself to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Deviben was a generous and kind soul, whose warmth touched everyone she met.
Deviben graced the world for 96 years. Though she is no longer with us physically, her love, strength, and spirit live on in each of us. She will always remain in our hearts.
