Devin Paul Bartel's Obituary
Devin Paul Bartel, a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, passed away on February 19, 2025 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 36. Devin was the son of Jason and Karen Bartel and older brother of Savannah Bartel. He was born on March 9, 1988 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where he spent the rest of his childhood.
Devin attended University of Tulsa before joining the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, serving in the 1-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. He was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan through the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force to serve in the War in Afghanistan. Following his honorable discharge from the army, he attended Fordham University in New York City, New York and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He continued to reside in New York City after graduation and was hired by the investment bank, Drexel Hamilton, where he worked for 12 years until his passing. Originally hired as an intern, he progressed to work for the company in various capacities, including Operations, Debt and Equity Syndicate, Municipals, and most recently the Securitized Products Group.
He loved traveling to experience diverse cultures and food, which led him to many adventures in Europe, Asia, and South America. He was passionate about cinema and was particularly fascinated with the art, process, and evolution of filmmaking. He was an avid hockey fan and never missed a game by his favorite team, the Boston Bruins. He loved music and was a lifelong fan of Rage Against Machine, U2, and Conor Oberst. He most recently took up cycling and hiking when he moved to Los Feliz in LA county. More than anything, he enjoyed relaxing and laughing with family and friends. He was happy to simply spend an evening chatting on the phone with out-of-state loved ones. He was everybody’s biggest fan. He delighted in watching his cousins and friends lead happy lives and realize their dreams. In his eyes, nobody cooked better food or was more patient and kind than his mom; nobody was a harder worker or stronger athlete than his dad. His little sister, Savannah, was the light of his life. He loved and admired her, and he frequently bragged about what an incredible person he believed her to be.
Devin is predeceased by his grandfathers, Dennis Daignault and Blake Bartel. He is survived by his parents, Jason and Karen Bartel, sister, Savannah Bartel, grandmothers, Elaine Bartel and Margaret Daignault, aunts, Cathy Bartel and Luanne Daignault, uncles, Blaine (Lori) Bartel and Darryl Daignault, and cousins, Jeremy Bartel, Dillon (Tommy Hernandez) Bartel, Brock Bartel, Dallas (Kate) Daignault, Ashley Daignault, and Brittany (Jarrod) Hunneryager.
