Dinah Sue Riggs' Obituary
Dinah Sue Riggs, known to family and friends as Sue, passed away on July 3, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 81.
Born on June 2, 1945, in Vinita, Oklahoma, Sue was the daughter of Carl and Winona Brown. She was blessed with exceptionally loving and devoted parents, whose influence remained a source of strength throughout her life.
Sue proudly served her country in the United States Navy. She had an adventurous spirit, a deep curiosity about the world, and a love of travel that took her to China, Israel, France, Japan, and many other places. She also cherished time spent in New Mexico with dear friends. She embraced new experiences and lived with a strong sense of independence and purpose.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Sue. Having attended the University of Oklahoma, she remained a fiercely loyal Sooner throughout her life, following OU athletics with enthusiasm and devotion. Her love of sports extended far beyond college football, and she was an especially devoted fan of Michael Jordan. She also loved music, with Garth Brooks holding a special place among her favorites.
Sue was intelligent, independent, highly capable, and deeply engaged in the communities and causes she cared about. An exceptionally talented fundraiser, she had a remarkable ability to find resources, inspire generosity, and bring people together in support of work she believed in. She worked tirelessly, built lasting relationships through that work, and had a gift for turning conviction into action. When Sue believed in something, she did more than lend her support; she found ways to move it forward.
Sue treasured her many friendships and valued the relationships she built throughout her life. Her sister’s family held a central place in her life, and she remained deeply connected to the family across generations. She loved them deeply and offered her help, generosity, and support in countless ways over the years. She took great joy in watching the younger generations grow and in remaining part of their lives.
That same ability to make things happen was evident in the many ways Sue helped others and contributed to the world around her. Sue was someone others often relied on for practical wisdom, problem-solving, and help navigating the details of everyday life. Organized, determined, and dependable, she had a rare ability to understand what needed to be done and see it through. When something needed attention, Sue was often the person who took care of it.
Sue will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, sharp mind, generosity, determination, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. She approached life with purpose and conviction, and her impact will continue to be felt by those who knew and loved her.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Carl and Winona Brown; her sister, Carla; and her nephew, Jeffrey Jones.
She is survived by her nephew David Jones and his wife, Julie; her nephew Daniel Jones and his wife, Abra; her niece Emily Brooks and her husband, Denny; and her beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, Payton, Noah, Theo, Beau, and Jacob.
