Dolores Gail Taylor's Obituary
Mrs. Dolores Gail Taylor was born in Bakersfield, CA on august 6th 1936. Preceded in death by her mom and dad and both brother and sister, she passed away on Thursday morning. She was the loving mother of Jill Renee Toma of Tulsa, OK and Stephen E. Eddy of San Antonio, TX.
Gail was an adventurous traveler who loved to watch the sights pass by as her loving husband Mr. Bill Taylor drove the roads in their motor home or car. They enjoyed their time together while visiting all but two states, which oddly enough, were in the Continental US. Unfortunately, Minnesota and Wisconsin really missed an opportunity to have the pair visit to buy depression-era glass or salt shakers, but they got plenty of that done in the other 48 states. Colorado and Vermont were two of her favorite haunts, regularly visiting in the fall to see the leaves change color.
Gail enjoyed sitting outside with her neighbors who were all dear to her. Spending time visiting with them after her walks always piqued her curiosity and these visits with the neighbors, their children, and grandchildren filled her heart with happiness. Her love of children and sitting outside listening to birds and wild animals provided her with a sense of home and security taking her back to her childhood home in the area around Coweta where she spent her youth.
Gail was known for her baking skills. Her son Steve would regularly take home 15# of peanut brittle home after Thanksgiving. Little did his mother know that Steve was using the crunchy-peanutty goodness to cement friendships and also cement many a business deal by parsing out the sweet Oklahoma goodness that his mom made. Other folks felt it was her Apple pie that most exemplified her talent as a baker. She was truly one of a kind in this effort.
Holidays were spent reveling in her grandchildren’s progress through life. She would report to each parent how well the other kids were doing with equal grace and happiness for those who’s story she told. Her grandchildren loved their “Grammy” and relished time spent with her. Whether making a quilt, talking about antiques, or discussing their childhood dreams, she always had an ear to ear grin while soaking in her grandchildren’s stories and progress. She is survived by her grandchildren Emily Bassett, Allison Edwards, Joey Edwards, Cambria Renee Toma, Elizabeth Erin Eddy and one great grandchild Everly Bassett.
Her best times were those spent with her husband Bill Taylor. He was the perfect soul mate for her. Patient and accommodating. Doting and caring. And a fellow traveler and believer in the word of Christ. Their Christian belief guided and provided them structure and their marriage of Thirty-Five years was a testament to their love. She depended on him and tried her best to take care of his needs and there is no doubt he did his best to love her.
We lay her to rest knowing she’s gone to a place of comfort. We will remember her quick smile and twinkling eyes. Her warm embrace and words of support will be with us always.
