Dominick MarCell Stephens' Obituary
Dominick Stephens, age 38, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life Tuesday, September 5, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dominick MarCell Stephens was born September 06, 1984 to Lloyd and Cassandra (Coats), in Pensacola, Florida.
Dominick loved music before his entrance into this world. Dominick earliest music interest was when he was about 3 years old he loved to touch any instrument he was around. His first formal experience with a musical instrument was when he played violin in the 4th and 5th grade in Illinois. We moved to Tulsa when he entered 6th grade and he begin playing the trombone at Union. Dominick begin composing music as a freshman in High School and was a part of the Union Regenade marching band as well as a member of the jazz band. Dominick became a DJ in college and continued his love of music with a Bachelors degree in Music Education and a Masters in Commercial Jazz production. Dominick produced a CD with 2 original songs. He played in several bands here locally and was a frequent player at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. He played trombone on several groups albums. He also played trombone for several plays including the musical Come From Away at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and participated in music festivals in Memphis, Tennessee and also Austin, Texas. Dominick received numerous awards and certificates for his music both individually and with the Marching bands.
Dominick will be dearly missed by his parents: Lloyd Stephens and Cassandra Stephens; brother: Lloyd Anthony Stephens; sisters: Stephanie Stephens and Nikia Anderson; niece: Diamond Robertson; grandmothers: Precious Stephens and Vera Rushing; aunts: Mary Surratt, Della Phelps, Charlemayne Hill, LaVerne Jordan, and Gayla Murray; uncle: Leslie Murray; a host of cousins, extended family including is musical family and friends.
Dominick is preceded in death by his grandfathers: Esaw Coats, Willie Stephens, and Lloyd Murray.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:30 PM, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
