Donald Norman Drain's Obituary
Donald Norman Drain was born November 26,1932 to Mildred Annabelle VanCleve and William Albert Drain in Lefors, Texas. He departed his earthly body August 3rd, 2021 and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at the age of 88.
Don and his family moved to Oklahoma City before he started school. Don graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City and then received his bachelor’s in education from Oklahoma A&M, now known as Oklahoma State University. He later received his master’s in education administration in 1986. His career after his service in the U.S. Army was always surrounding education, empowerment, and opportunity. He finished his career as a successful grant writer, funding programs for advancement in higher education.
Don met Nell Ruth Cross in 1968 and their bond was strong from the beginning. They married December 31, 1969. They shared many passions over the years, but none more important than family.
Don is preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother Cecil Drain, brother William A. Drain, Jr., sister Mary Ellen Drain Gardner and stepson Clyde David Cross Jr.
Don is survived by his devoted wife Nell Ruth Drain of the home. They shared children: Donna Kaye Roberts (Ronnie) of Broken Arrow, Lora Ann Phillips (Greg) of Broken Arrow, Dawn Michelle Heber (Rob) of Sapulpa, and daughter in-law Cindy Cross of Broken Arrow. Grandchildren: Jennifer Renee Cross, Lucas Wayne Cross (Manuela), Jillian Dawn Salmons (Nicholas), Taylor Vanwinkle, Grant Vanwinkle (Casey)and Joseph David Phillips. Great Grandchildren: Ameryk, Alaric, Ansyn, Alese, Lisa, Jackie, Rachel, Anthony, and Jason. Great-great Grandchildren: Natalya and Zoe. Many loved nieces, nephews, brother in-laws and sister in-laws. And of course, Puppy.
Visitation will be 3-5 pm, Sunday, August 9, 2021 at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm, Monday, August 9, 2021 at Floral Haven
