Donald Keenan's Obituary
Donald Wayne Keenan, 81, affectionately known by all as Don, passed away on April 7, 2025 at his home in Glenpool, OK. He was born on February 15, 1944 in Ellsworth, KS to parents Donald Worth Keenan and Jennie (Whiteside) Keenan. His sister, Donna Keenan, preceded him in death in 2012. In 1965, Don was married to Audrey (Bryant) Keenan and is survived by his two children, Donald Wayne Keenan II, and his wife Crystal of Derby, Kansas and Ann Kristine Conner and her husband Chuck of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and his grandchildren, Chaeli Keenan of Wichita, Kansas, Lane Conner of Haskell, Oklahoma, Natalie (Conner) O’Guin and her husband Ian of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Kristen Conner of Glenpool, Oklahoma. Don was remarried in 1985 to Patricia (Alton) Keenan, who preceded him in death in 2018.
As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Don proudly served his country at home and abroad. After retirement from the military, Don was employed by the Oklahoma Employment Securities Administration. While employed there he served as two-time President of the Oklahoma Public Employees Association where he protected the rights of active and retired state workers. Upon retirement from state service, Don took his skills to Sinclair’s Tulsa Refinery where he continued to defend the workforce as the Human Resources Director. It was during this time that Don completed his master’s degree in management. He then proceeded to earn his Doctoral Degree in Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. Don was always wanting to help others. If that weren’t enough, in full retirement Don became the Plaintiff in a 2024 lawsuit against the Oklahoma State Treasurer to protect retired state employee’s money – and won.
Don’s pride and joy was his grandkids. From attending sports events to bringing them up in conversations with strangers, he was proud of the adults they grew up to be. He also enjoyed spending time with friends playing poker, drinking coffee, talking politics, and always offering valuable advice to his kids and grandkids. He will be forever missed.
